I release pieces because I need them in my own wardrobe first.
For years I've wanted a plus size parka jacket, but every time I tried one on, I walked away disappointed.
The sleeves were too tight
The arms felt restrictive.
I couldn't comfortably layer a knit underneath.
Or the jacket fit my arms but was huge everywhere else.
If you're plus size, you've probably experienced exactly the same thing.
Designing with real bodies in mind
One thing I don't often talk about is that I live with lipedema, and one of the areas it affects most is my arms.
Finding jackets has never been easy.
When your arms are fuller, you quickly realise that many brands simply take a standard-size jacket and make it wider. Unfortunately, that doesn't always mean it fits properly. The proportions can still feel off, especially through the upper arms, shoulders and bust.
As a designer, that's something I wanted to change.
When we started designing the Penelope Parka, my goal wasn't just to make another jacket.
I wanted to create a plus size parka that actually worked for plus size women.

One of the things I'm most proud of at Friday Flamingo is that we don't just design clothing.

Every design starts with me asking:
"What's missing from my wardrobe?"
